As part of my role within the pastoral team, I have the privilege of focusing on our parent
carer offer and working alongside families at many different stages of their journey. Some
are celebrating milestones, while others are navigating challenges that can sometimes feel
overwhelming. Whatever their circumstances, one thing remains true parents and carers
want the very best for their children, and they deserve to know they are not facing that
journey alone.<\/p>

For me, pastoral support is about more than helping a young person access education. It is
about building relationships, creating trust and working in partnership with the people who
know that young person best. When parents, carers, educators and pastoral professionals
come together with a shared purpose, we create the foundations for meaningful and lasting
change.<\/p>

Parents and Carers Are the Experts<\/h3>

No one knows a child better than the people who love and care for them every day. Parents
and carers understand the routines, interests, anxieties, strengths and the subtle signs that
others may not immediately notice. Their knowledge is invaluable and should always be
recognised and respected.<\/p>

Pastoral support isn\u2019t about telling families what they should do. It is about listening first,
understanding their experiences and working together to find approaches that meet the
individual needs of each young person.<\/p>

When families feel heard and valued, trust begins to grow. That trust becomes the
foundation for genuine collaboration.<\/p>

Looking Beyond the Classroom<\/h3>

Learning doesn\u2019t happen in isolation. A young person\u2019s emotional wellbeing, confidence,
relationships and sense of belonging all influence their ability to engage with education.
Pastoral care recognises that supporting the whole child also means supporting the people
around them. Parents and carers are often balancing appointments, meetings, advocating
for their child, managing everyday family life and carrying the emotional weight that can
come with it.<\/p>

Sometimes, what families need most is not another professional with all the answers, but
someone who will listen without judgement, offer reassurance and work alongside them.<\/p>

Building Our Parent Carer Offer<\/h3>

One of the things I am most passionate about is ensuring that parents and carers feel just as
supported as the young people we work with. Every conversation with a family reminds me
that even small moments of understanding and encouragement can make a significant
difference.<\/p>

That is why we are continuing to develop our parent carer offer.
Our vision is to create support that is flexible, accessible and centred around the individual
needs of each family. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, we want to work
alongside parents and carers, recognising that every family\u2019s journey is unique.<\/p>

Our Parent Carer Offer currently includes:<\/p>

  • Online parent webinars covering a variety of topics relevant to families of children
    and young people with Special Educational Needs.<\/li>
  • Online drop-in sessions with members of our pastoral team, providing a welcoming
    space to ask questions and connect with the pastoral team.<\/li>
  • Individual 1:1 parenting support, offering personalised guidance and
    encouragement tailored to each family\u2019s circumstances.<\/li>
  • Attending meetings alongside parents and carers, helping families feel supported
    and ensuring their voices are heard.<\/li>
  • Tailored family support, developed collaboratively to strengthen relationships, build
    confidence and respond to the unique needs of each family.<\/li>
  • A compassionate, non-judgemental listening ear, because sometimes the greatest
    support begins with someone simply taking the time to listen.<\/li><\/ul>

    As our parent carer offer continues to grow, we want it to be shaped by the families we
    support. Their experiences, ideas and feedback will help us continue to develop meaningful
    support that reflects real-life needs.<\/p>

    We\u2019re not building a service for parents and carers, we\u2019re building it with them.<\/p>

    Building Relationships That Make a Difference<\/h3>

    At the heart of pastoral support are relationships.<\/p>

    Taking the time to build trust, communicate openly and celebrate progress together creates
    an environment where young people feel safe to grow. Progress is not always measured by
    academic achievements. Sometimes it is attending a session after a difficult week, asking for
    help, managing emotions in a new way or simply beginning to believe in themselves again.<\/p>

    These moments matter, and they deserve to be celebrated.<\/p>

    Working Together Towards Shared Goals<\/h3>

    Partnership is not about having all the answers. It is about bringing different perspectives
    together with one shared purpose helping each young person thrive.
    When education, families and pastoral teams communicate honestly and consistently,
    young people benefit from a joined-up approach that promotes stability, confidence and
    resilience.<\/p>

    Every conversation, every shared success and every challenge overcome together
    strengthens that partnership.<\/p>

    One thing I hope every parent and carer knows is this you do not have to do this alone.<\/p>


    At the heart of pastoral care is the belief that no family should feel they are facing their
    journey alone. We are committed to working alongside parents, carers and young people\u2014
    listening, supporting and working together every step of the way.<\/p>


    As we continue to grow our parent carer offer, our commitment remains the same to
    provide compassionate, meaningful support that helps families feel heard, valued and
    empowered. By working together, valuing one another\u2019s experiences and keeping young
    people at the heart of everything we do, we can create positive, lasting outcomes for
