How we help

At SENse Learning, we support young people with additional needs from the age of five to twenty-five. Whatever the reasons for accessing our services, which range from anxiety or mental health conditions to children struggling in more formal school settings or waiting for a specialist placement we give every young person the respect and support they deserve.

Because we’re dealing with individuals, we constantly evolve what we offer, tailoring it to suit ever-changing needs. We look at health, education and wellbeing in a holistic way which revolves around positive relationship building, creative interest-based learning and working at the young person’s pace.

The SEND Needs We Support

At SENse Learning, we work with young people who are out of school or struggling to attend full-time, most of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We tailor each educational journey to their unique needs, regularly supporting students with:

  • Neurodevelopmental conditions: Autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, PDA profiles
  • Learning difficulties: Dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, global developmental delay
  • Mental health and emotional needs: Anxiety, trauma, attachment needs, SEMH challenges, ESBA
  • Other complex needs: Sensory needs, FASD, FND, OCD, ESL

We follow trauma-informed principles and provide 1:1 or occasional 2:1 sessions in safe, supportive environments. While we aim to support as many young people as possible, our provision isn’t suitable for those who may abscond or require frequent physical intervention.

Through our four SENse Pathways, we guide students along the right path, continuously reviewing progress to ensure the best outcomes.

Our WILL framework™ complements this, focusing on Wellbeing, Interaction, Learning, and Life Skills, alongside Functional Skills and other qualifications, to deliver a truly holistic approach.

Our SEND Specialist Curriculum

At SENse Learning, we provide bespoke, holistic education that values both academic progress and personal development.

  • Primary Functional Curriculum: A streamlined version of the National Curriculum, tailored to each child’s pace.
  • Functional Skills: Nationally recognised qualifications in English and Maths for secondary-age students, preparing them for college, work, and adult life.
  • WILL Framework™: Focuses on Wellbeing, Interaction, Life Skills, and Learning Skills to track progress beyond academics.
  • ASDAN & Arts Awards: Practical, engaging activities that build life skills, creativity, and confidence.

Every programme is personalised, interest-led, and designed to help students thrive in learning and life.

Pastoral Support at SENse Learning

At SENse Learning, nothing matters more than the safety and wellbeing of our students, families, staff, and associates. Our experienced pastoral team lead on safeguarding, welfare, and holistic support, ensuring everyone in our community feels safe, supported, and valued.

We work closely with Operation Encompass, a joint initiative between Police and Education, to ensure timely support for students affected by domestic abuse.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and six Deputy DSLs oversee safeguarding and wellbeing across all provisions. They deliver regular training for staff and associates and coordinate timely interventions around behaviour, mental health, and family support.

Through ongoing welfare check-ins, reflective supervision, and targeted interventions, our team helps students and families stabilise, grow, and thrive.

We also provide a comprehensive training programme for staff, associates, parents, and carers covering topics such as mental health, exploitation, radicalisation, and child protection to ensure everyone has the knowledge and confidence to keep young people safe.

Our pastoral approach supports not just students, but their families too, helping create lasting, positive change at home and in education.

Our pathways

Most of our students will start their SENse Learning journey here. They get to meet and start building relationships with their tutor team and together we map out an educational journey that makes SENse for them.

This is a pathway which looks to minimise barriers to learning. The focus is on developing confidence, socialisation and engagement skills for children aiming to reintegrate to a school or college.

A pathway where young people are encouraged to work towards further education or training, employment and independent living. Students will all develop their wellbeing, interaction, learning and life skills through our SENse WILL and Functional Skill curriculum as they look towards these exciting next steps.

This pathway focuses on building a solid foundation by prioritising wellbeing above all else. Our aim is to support and enable students to step into another SENse pathway that will help determine what comes after SENse. It’s also sometimes the right place for our EOTAS students who need a primary focus on wellbeing.

Hear from our founders

We celebrate the diversity of our students and strive to ensure that no child, or young person, is left behind.

Hear direct from founders, Lucy and Sophie about how SENse Learning works with individuals, families and the network around them to create a learning path that makes SENse.

“X has become more enthusiastic and confident in terms of recording his ideas. He is keen to participate in class activities and has become more relaxed and friendly with his peers. His attitude and his self-worth in terms of writing have increased immensely.”
