Term Time Only (39 Weeks)

Salary: £26,000- £32,000 FTE. Actual (39 weeks) salary: £19,500- £24,000

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Case Management and Referral

  • Respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse or other concerns which relate to the well-being of a child, in line with local and national procedures.
  • Have oversight of a caseload of students and be responsible for responding to their complex and unique safeguarding needs, acting as a consistent point of contact.
  • Where appropriate, refer concerns to the Local Authority Children’s Social Care or to other appropriate agencies (e.g., Police, CAMHS) and ensure that all concerns are acted upon promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, robust and secure written records in relation to welfare concerns and referrals, ensuring adherence to GDPR and data protection regulations.

Support and Collaboration

  • Offer safeguarding support and advice to staff and associates to manage situations that arise, providing clarity on reporting mechanisms and next steps.
  • To lead Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings where appropriate or be a dedicated participant on behalf of the provision, ensuring the student’s voice and AP context are represented.
  • Attend relevant multi-agency safeguarding meetings (e.g., Child Protection Conferences, Core Group Meetings) and share information and provide a view on next steps to secure positive outcomes for the student.
  • Establish and develop collaborative working with allied health and social care practitioners from children’s and adults’ services to create integrated support packages.
  • Support families/carers in person and virtually, offering sensitive advice and guidance on navigating support services.
  • To support the enhanced offer by helping families to access local and national services and interventions.

Policy, Training, and Culture

  • To work autonomously within this alternative education setting, confidently working alongside and advising education colleagues on safeguarding matters.
  • Understand the importance of information sharing, both within the provision and with the three safeguarding partners (Local Authority, Police, NHS), other agencies, organisations, and practitioners.
  • To encourage a culture of listening to children and taking into account their wishes and feelings, among all staff/associates in any measures the provision may put in place to protect them.
  • To support with CPD and training relating to safeguarding and other welfare areas, ensuring all staff receive timely and relevant updates.
